The HTC One M9 could have been an easily solid choice, if not for its camera specs. With the One M9 software update, that should no longer be a concern for existing device users and prospective buyers.
Addressed Feature
The device's camera performance is one aspect that has been heavily criticized about this handset, and now HTC addresses it through a firmware update which also promises to improve battery life. The update, which is released OTA and is based on the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, will upgrade the HTC One M9 software to 1.40.401.5.
Update started rolling out
Users of HTC One M9 in Taiwan were the first to receive the software update for their device two weeks ago, while users in Middle East, Europe, and Africa can expect to receive it this week. Those in the US will have to wait a little longer as the software update will be released within this month.
Improved Camera Features
One of the notable camera performance improvements that One M9 users saw upon upgrading was the enhanced auto-exposure balance. Comes with this improvement is the reduction of low light noise and blur as well as overexposure correction.
In other words, the image that the camera will render will be much clearer and more detailed. It also minimizes the yellow and green hues in images captured under extreme lighting conditions.
Battery Life Upgrades
HTC also brings overall improvement for battery performance through two ways. One is by reducing the power consumption of commonly used apps such as YouTube and Facebook. Another is by providing thermal management to keep the One M9 cool when being charged.
Dot View Case
HTC also offers a unique case for One M9, that is, the Dot View case. The case filled with a matrix of dots can be interactive, especially that the Dot View service should be activated in the device's setting. By tapping on it, users can wake and put it back to sleep; by swiping, users can open or dismiss a notification, or advance to the next one. HTC has also released apps for the Dot View Case, namely Dot Design and Dot breaker. It is offered at a price that ranges from $39.99-$49.99.
If the HTC One M9 software update delivers the good, it can make up for the disappointment that its loyal fans felt about the current flagship device. The One M9 is considered inferior to its predecessor, the One M8.
