Apple released Sixth OS X Yosemite 10.10.4; Hinted features to improve performance and bug fixes?

By

The sixth beta of OS Yosemite 10.10.4 has been released to developers and public beta testers, a week after the fifth OS X 10.10.4 beta was released.

Dubbed as build 14E36b, the new beta release features is yet to be revealed in the updated change log on Apple's developer webpage. Once the beta OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 is available, it can be downloaded either through the Mac Developer Center or through the Mac App Store via its Software Update mechanism. Yes, public beta testers receive emails containing notification about the new OS X 10.10.4 beta and how to download it.

According to Mac Rumors, the OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 seems to be "an under-the-hood update that brings performance enhancements and bug fixes." This is after the fourth beta included teaser updates that may help improve networking performance for users that have experienced problems with the OS X Yosemite. One of them is the removal of Discoveryd, a networking process that has been linked to several OS X 10.10 issues and which was replaced by the older mDNSresponder.

In the previous OS X betas, Apple developers focused on data migration, Photos, and support for font packages and other forms of system-level tools. For instance, OS X 10.10.3 brought consumer-facing changes like the new Photos for OS X app, diversified emoji, and a redesigned emoji picker. So far, the current betas have not included feature additions or outward facing design changes.

There's no update yet on when Apple will release OS X 10.10.4 to the public. Since this is the sixth beta, it could be a sign that Apple's beta testing period is nearing the end. Reports said that it could coincide with the release of iOS 8.4 along with the new Music app and Apple Music service on June 30.

Next to OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 is the launching of Apple's next-generation OS X 10.11 El Capitan operating system, which was announced at the WWDC. The new OS promises better user interface, improved Spotlight search tool and several backend additions for developers.
