Universal Pictures has recently announced that Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson will reprise their roles of Becca Mitchell and Fat Amy respectively in the forthcoming "Pitch Perfect 3" which is due July 2017. Elizabeth Banks and her husband Max Handelman will also return to the franchise as producers.
The Bellas' graduation in "Pitch Perfect 2" may have brought its diehard fans worries that they may not be returning anymore to its sequel but it looks like two of them are still good to go for part three. After smashing the box office with around $250 million in only one month, Universal Pictures has green lighted the development of the in-demand third installment of the popular a cappella film "Pitch Perfect". Kay Cannon, writer of the first two films, is reportedly already in talks to pen the third film. However, it looks like she is not the only one who will be returning to her duties for "Pitch Perfect 3" as lead stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are already confirmed to come back as well.
On Monday, Kendrick who played the role of Bellas' leader, Becca Mitchell, has celebrated the news through an Instagram post saying "Happening #3".
According to Variety, Paul Brooks of Golden Circle Entertainment is returning to the franchise as a producer along with his wife and "Pitch Perfect 2" helmer, Elizabeth Banks. No further information was disclosed though whether Banks is returning to the director's chair as well.
The "Pitch Perfect" franchise was adapted from Mickey Rapkin's novel entitled "Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory". As per Business Standard's report, its most recent installment was directed by Banks and starred Hailee Steinfeld ("Barely Lethal", "Ender's Game"), Brittany Snow ("Hairspray", "The Pacifier"), Ester Dean ("Ice Age: Continental Drift"), Hana Mae Lee, Alexis Knapp ("Project X", "The Anomaly") alongside Kendrick, Wilson and Banks.
Universal's "Pitch Perfect 3" is slated to premiere on June 21, 2017 along with Fox's untitled cartoon project from DreamWorks and Blue Sky.
