AT&T started rolling Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update for Motorola Nexus 6 (XT1103) devices effective on June 11. Owners will need a stable Wi-Fi connection since this will be available through Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) download.
The Lollipop upgrade will bring changes in order to improve stability and disable Smart Lock feature when EAS password policy is enforced.
Users are advised to reserve a copy of media files as well as expecting that the update will arrive in phases.
"Although there should be no impacts to settings or data, we recommend that you back up your media files to a PC or using a favorite application (from the Play Store), prior to upgrading the software. Google will use a 'slow roll' FOTA campaign that starts with 1% of the ELIGIBLE users on day one and ramps up availability to 100% by the end of the first week+/-," said AT&T.
Motorola Nexus 6 (XT1103) owners should also take note of the following:
- The Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update cannot be pulled via Settings. It seemed best to wait for the firmware.
- The download will take place automatically given that the device is qualified and connected to a Wi-Fi network. Device owners will be prompted to install it after a notification.
- Once the notif is received, the user's Motorola Nexus 6 must be charged sufficiently and connected to a stable Wi-Fi. After that, they can select "Install."
Further, the upgrade will have build version LMY47Z and will take a space of about 81 MB.
This update was also similar to what Sprint and US Cellular rolled out, which brought stability tweak, interface improvements, and others.
"The build that's currently released is the same one that we've already seen on the Sprint and US Cellular Nexus 6 variants, an update that was first rolled out last May. The new firmware upgrade comes with Lollipop stability tweak, interface improvements and multiple fixed bugs that were present on Android 5.0 Lollipop," reported Android Geeks.
Other Motorola devices that received Android Lollipop 5.1.1 was those using it in India.
"Earlier, Motorola released the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Moto G 1st Gen and Moto G 2nd Gen in India," stated Gospel Herald.
It is still unclear if Motorola would update Moto G owners in other countries with the 5.1.1 as the company is yet to make an official announcement.
