Both LG G4 and Sony Xperia Z4 (Z3+) offer incremental progress from their respective predecessors. The two devices lack innovative software and cutting-edge hardware, two crucial factors that make today's handsets compelling and outshine rivals.
With the announcement of Xperia Z4v, another Sony's flagship phone which sports technically superior specs than the Z4, would the performance gap between the G4 and Z4 grow wider than it already is (in paper)?
Processor
The LG G4 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, while the Xperia Z4v features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Octa-core processor, the same processors that the Z4 and Z3+ boast of. In this aspect, the Z4 emerges stronger than the G4. But then there is the heating issue associated with the said Xperia phones' processors, and which Sony acknowledged already.
Display
The LG G4's less powerful battery can result in longer battery life, if it weren't using a powerful display which also happens to be its strongest feature. Featuring a 5.5-inch LCD display with a 2,560x1, 440-pixel resolution and 534ppi, the G4 is slightly bigger than the 5.2-inch Z4V with the same resolution as that of the G4 but a different 424ppi .
The G4 also has something more impressive than Xperia Z4v's IPS LCD Triluminos display, which according to Sony delivers "more vivid reds and natural-looking greens and blues than on conventional, white LED monitors." The G4 features the world's first Quantum display, which LG claims delivers 25 percent brightness improvement and 50 percent contrast improvement than the G3 offers. Such display quality also provides a 20 percent greater color reproduction than LG's previous QHD screens. It also comes with Advanced In-Cell Touch tech for improved color reproduction and sensitivity.
Durability
If the Z4 also features the same shatter proof glass display that its international siblings do, then it is more durable than G4's Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Plus, the Z4v is water and dust proof. It comes with cool features, too, like the headphone detection capability and the Remote Play feature which allows PlayStation 4 owners to stream games using the handset.
Appearance
In terms of appearance, both are not as premium looking as far as their other rival devices are concerned. The Z4 seems to have more plastic framing than the Z3+ and Z4.
Updates
If Sony is in the news today for Z4 announcement, LG also is with its extended promo where battery, battery charger, and microSD card are offered for free. The promo can be availed from LG US and is extended until June 30. LG has also offered a 100GB of Google Drive storage for free for two years when it was launched.
Sony Xperia Z4v is still to prove its worth when it finally arrives and actual testing can be done. For now we can settle with the fact that both LG G4 and Xperia Z4v are repackaged versions of their predecessors, with pros here and there, but still seem like slightly tweaked devices.
