Insomniac Games recently unveiled their upcoming third person action adventure game titled 'Edge of Nowhere'. The game was designed to be played exclusively using the Oculus Rift head-mounted VR display and offers players with a next level gaming experience.
CEO of Insomniac Games Ted Price took the stage during Oculus VR's E3 press conference last week to announce their new project 'Edge of Nowhere'. He describes that 'Edge of Nowhere' will take gamers to the frozen Arctic, in search of a missing expedition of explorers where players will be tested in a surreal world. "It will twist you," said Price. "And eventually it may break you. You're surrounded on all sides by the unexpected, and nothing is as it seems."
According to Game Debate, Ted Price also revealed that the game was built as a dedicated virtual reality experience, to be released exclusively for the Oculus Rift. The Insomniac head shared that working on 'Edge of Nowhere' was both challenging and educational for the team -- providing them the thrill of exploring a "new frontier". A previous VR skeptic, Price admits he's now a "believer".
Game fanatics at E3 were also treated to a playable demo of 'Edge of Nowhere' using the consumer version of the 'Oculus Rift' headset. Game reviewers at Digital Trends were able to play the demo and relayed how games built for the Rift are at a different wavelength compared to games played on a flat screen. More factors are taken into account when using a VR headset such as keeping track of the player's head position, the 'proximity' of game objects, and the way the UI functions. Ultimately it provides players with an unforgettable gaming experience and such is the case with 'Edge of Nowhere' -- it delivers a "next level experience".
Release dates for both the 'Oculus Rift' and 'Edge of Nowhere' are slated for 2016. Insomniac Games is targeting for a Q1 2016 release, but it's unclear if Oculus VR will launch its device at the same time.
