'Neon Genesis Evangelion' Movie: 'Transformers' Director Michael Bay Says 'Evangelion Rumor' Is Not True

The fans of the Japanese animated series "Neon Genesis Evangelion" might already have their hopes up after rumors about Michael Bay directing the most-awaited movie adaptation has started to swirl around recently. However, it looks like they are going to be disappointed as the "Transformers" director has confirmed that the surfacing speculations are not true at all.

The false news has started to surface when a Korean drama site reported that Michael Bay is slated to direct "Neon Genesis Evangelion", an apocalyptic anime series which was first introduced back in 1995. Citing a non-existing fansite, it was reported that the 50-year-old filmmaker was approached by journalists who were allegedly asking him if he is interested to helm other series. The site claimed that the "Transformers" director responded positively mentioning the Japanese Anime as one of the projects he wants to direct.

Bay then clarified his involvement in the said report. According to Topless Robot, he announced in his Twitter account his exclusion in the film adaptation, writing "#evangelion rumor going around is not true". Though the Korean stated a name of the source -which turned out to be unreal -no links were provided to its sources. The source which was named 'Transformers News Center' only brings the searcher to car sites if searched in Google.

Apart from this false report, the filmmaker is also rumored to helm the "Transformers 5" as the franchise actor Mark Wahlberg who played the role of Cade Yeager in its latest installment, recently expressed his belief that Bay is returning to the director's seat. As previously reported, the filmmaker still has not released a word about the speculation though.

Regardless if he's returning to the director's chair or not, Bay will still be on board as the executive producer of the franchise's fifth installment which is reportedly due in 2017.

Meanwhile, "Neon Genesis Evangelion" is Japanese animated series created by Hideaki Anno which aired 26 episodes back in 1995 and 1996. It follows the story of a teenage pilot of of a bio-mechanical fighting machine known as an Evagelion as he goes into combat with outrageous and monstrous creatures known as Angels.
