Despite the untimely departure of a major character, nothing is stopping the 'Furious' franchise to gear up for its forthcoming sequel which is due in April 2017 with additional cast members. From Eva Mendes, and MMA Champs Ronda Rousey and Joana Jedrzejcksyk, 'Furious 8' is now also slated to feature Kurt Russell's Mr. Nobody, the shadowy government agent who appeared in its latest installment.

It was noted that Kurt Russell only made a cameo in the franchise's most recent installment. Russell, as per Yibada's report, portrayed the role of a government agent and covert operative known only for his alias 'Mr. Nobody'. He was involved in a dispute between Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw on the request of the Diplomatic Secret Service agent, Luke Hobbs.

The 64-year-old actor's portrayal of the enigmatic character is said to have easily made him a fan-favorite. In fact, in an interview for Furious 7, he mentioned that Russell was really meant to be in the new film. "Kurt Russell came in for this movie but we really hired him for a story that follows this, that takes place in New York," Diesel shared, according to Vine Report.

Russell is best known for his portrayal of the U.S. Olympic hockey coach Herb Brooks in the 2004 film, "Miracle", as well as his character in the 2006 disaster-thriller movie "Poseidon". With a good resume in the field, Diesel, as per Ecumenical News' report, believes that his inclusion in the next film would be a great asset to the franchise.

The actor will be joining Eva Mendes who was previously reported to join the returning cast in "Furious 8". Mendes' return as the undercover agent, Monica Fuentes, is slated to be the cause of a major rift in Diesel's Toretto and Michelle Rodriguez's Letty Ortiz. Also joining the cast are mixed martial artists Ronda Rousey and Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

"Fast & Furious 8" is set to hit the big screen on April 17, 2017.
