Viola Davis of the show "How To Get Away With Murder" recently graced the cover of the latest edition of "The Wrap" and she talked about how she tries to make scenes for the show better in order for it to have more impact. Specifically, she mentioned the vanity scene where she put on her wig and she said that it was her chance to "woman up."
According to Entertain This, Viola Davis told The Wrap that she does not want to be that Vogue woman as she veers away from the Hollywood stereotypes. The outspoken actress tackled sexism, ageism, and racism as she wants to portray real people rather than just a TV character.
Davis first tackled the scene wherein she was removing her wig and makeup and it was actually her idea to make it as dramatic as it was in "How To Get Away With Murder." Executive producer Pete Nowalk said that Davis came into the set and did her part with so much insight and thoughtfulness that it helped her to be able to shape the scene in so many ways that wowed the audience.
Davis' character, Annalise, was far from the characters she played before as it was more of sexy than maternal. Davis shared, "So I thought it was a chance to step outside of my comfort zone. And also a chance to be No. 1 on the call sheet. To see what it feels like to really carry a show was very attractive to me."
The 49-year-old actress added that the wig scene of Kimberly was very iconic and it was her chance to woman up because she feels like women are like that in real life. The wig scene had a certain braveness and boldness and Davis pointed out that's what women are. She said that it's not always about being pretty but it is about being able to uncover yourself and feel comfortable with the way you look in private, Entertain This excerpts from the interview.
The iconic "How To Get Away With Murder" wig scene was also shot just once as Davis joked she did not like to have to put on make-up again after doing such a dramatic scene, Business Insider reported.
There is no air date released for "How To Get Away With Murder" Season 2 yet. Stay tuned for more updates!
