Luc Besson's EuropaCorp Reveals Development of 'Lucy 2' and 'Colombiana 2'

By

While Luc Besson along with his screenwriter partner Robert Mart Kamen have already formed a mini-empire with their hit action films "Taken" and "The Transporter", the filmmaker's production company, EuropaCorp, is now planning to create franchise babies out of its two female-led action slates "Lucy" and "Colombiana".

Luc Besson's EuropaCorp has recently revealed their slate of films currently in the works at CineEurope 2015. According to Mxdwn, it includes "Nine Lives" with Kevin Spacey, "Escobar" with Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, "The Transporter Refueled" with Jason Statham, and "Valerian" with Dane Dehaan and Cara Delevingne. More interestingly, the list of the company's future slate of flicks also reportedly includes "Lucy 2".

It was noted by Coming Soon that the action movie "Lucy" has ended with a very little room left for a follow-up film which makes the sequel unlikely. In fact, Besson, himself, admitted this to a Taiwanese press last summer saying: "I don't see how we can do [a sequel]. It's not made for that. If I find something good enough, maybe I will, but for now I don't even think about it."

However, considering the astounding $458 million on a $40 million budget the film has grossed, Besson might be able to come up with a story to tell for the Scarlett Johansson-starring sequel.

Meanwhile, it may have only earned $60 million worldwide over a $40 million budget back in 2011, but "Colombiana" has also made it to the EuropaCorp's slate of films. It was noted that the female assassin pic has scored bad reviews from its spectators, despite good notices for the flim's lead star, Zoe Saldana. But with her inclusion in James Cameron's "Avatar" sequels as well as "Star Trek 3", her growing profile could probably justify the action film sequel, The Playlist predicts.

No further details regarding Johansson and Saldana's return have been disclosed yet. But in order for the potential franchise to pick up steam, it is safe to say that these actresses will be officially reprising their roles soon.
