Women empowerment icons Gal Gadot, Kathy Bates and Gwendoline Christie discussed female role models, sexism, discrimination and physical challenges they encounter in their career. They revealed their struggle in the challenging world of Hollywood in the "Women Who Kick Ass" at Comic-Con.
The "Women Who Kick Ass" panel in Comic Con was held by Entertainment Weekly at Hall H. They have hosted this event sixth year in a row. Gal Gadot who's playing Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman, Kathy Bates of American Horror Story and Gwendoline Christie, who stars as Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones have honored the event. They have shared their bad ass experiences as women in the male-embodied world of movies and television.
Gwendoline Christie will also star in the upcoming movies of Star Wars and Hunger Games. She recalled her challenging fight scene as Brienne of Tarth battling with the Hound at the end of season four in the popular series Game of Thrones. She said that what was seen in the fight was real connection of fist and undercarriage.
In a TIME article, Christie was asked about whom was she looking up to as a female hero when she was growing up. She said that Sigourney Weaver in Alien was a great inspiration for her. She added: "She had that strength and power but no forsaking her femininity-and good old fashioned ass kicking."
Kathy Bates also told a story in Jezebel about her legendary fight scene in the movie Misery where he had her head gets slammed to the floor. This is one of the many physical challenges that she had to face throughout her career in Hollywood.
Wonder Woman Gal Gadot said that she did not experience sexism and discrimination as a woman in a man's world although she has worked so much with sets taken over by males. Only she had to be firm with her choice of characters given to her and speak her mind about it consistently.
Gal Gadot, Kathy Bates and Gwendoline Christie have revealed their struggle in Hollywood at the recent "Women Who Kick Ass" at Comic Con 2015. They remained as strong as their characters in the silver screen.
