While most panels at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con has introduced their slate of films by trotting out the biggest stars in the cast, Ridley Scott's "The Martian" did a more unconventional approach. Instead of having Matt Damon on stage, the audiences were faced to a panel with the best-selling author, Andy Weir, and a few NASA scientists whose expertise involves human settlement on Mars. The upcoming film is slated to open in cinemas on October 2.

It may not be the most anticipated and most talked film at the 2015 San Diego Comic Con, but Ridley Scott's "The Martian" definitely has the most unique panel in the said event. Unlike other panels which were mostly consist of the helmers and lead stars, the film's frontmen were people who have more expertise on the theme of the upcoming movie.

According to the News Herald, the crowd was faced with the best-selling author Andy Weir, and some real scientists who are currently working on putting humans on Mars. Instead of talking about the characters and production matters, the panel has reportedly centered more on sharing facts to the audience. The outlet reports that NASA scientist Jim Green has discussed the history of the planet while NASA Space Launch System Program Manager Todd May explained the logistics of the journey.

"The Martian" follows Astronaut Mark Watney's (Matt Damon) struggle for survival after he was presumed dead and was left behind by his crew. Millions of miles away, NASA and numerous scientists strive hard to bring Watney back, while his crewmates concurrently plans a heroic rescue mission.

Apart from Damon ("Elysium", "The Bourne Identity"), the film also stars Jessica Chastain (Interstellar, Zero Dark Thirty), Kristen Wiig ("Welcome to Me", "The Skeleton Twins"), Kate Mara ("House of Cards," "Fantastic Four"), Michael Pena ("Fury", "End of Watch"), Jeff Daniels ("The Newsroom," "Dumb and Dumber To"), Chiwetel Ejiofor ("12 Years a Slave", "Children of Men") and Donald Glover ("Community," "Mystery Team").

The upcoming sci-fi flick is directed and produced by Ridley Scott along with Simon Kinberg, Michael Schaefer, Mark Huffam and Aditya Sood. "The Martian" which is originally scheduled for a November 25 release, is now expected to hit theaters on October 2nd.
