"The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise director Marc Webb has recently said that he is "sad" but "psyched" for Sony and Marvel's "Spider-Man" reboot. The director also revealed that he would have explored the supervillain called "The Gentleman" and Venom, if "Amazing Spider-Man 3" was pushed through. The upcoming reboot of the superhero flick is slated to open in theaters on July 2017.
Ever since Marvel and Sony has announced that they are going to revamp the live-action franchise of the web-crawling superhero, "Amazing Spider-Man" director Marc Webb has remained mum on the topic -until recently. At the 2015 San Diego Comic Con, the filmmaker has finally expressed his opinion about the highly anticipated live-action reboot.
"I'm really psyched that Spider-Man is going back to the Marvel universe, I'm really excited to see that incarnation," Webb told MTV. According to him, having Jon Watts in the director's seat is also what makes the film highly anticipated. He even mentioned that he knew the filmmaker back in the old music video days and acknowledged him for creating some really fantastic music videos.
The director has also commented about the new casting of a younger Spider-Man saying that the realm of the superhero's universe has a huge capacity for reinvention. "And there's a lot of different ways to interpret that character, whether it's Miles Morales or Peter Parker or whomever," he said. "I'm really curious to see how that evolves."
However, he still admitted his disappointment in departing the popular franchise, saying "It's sad a little bit to surrender that in a way, but it's as it must be I guess." According to Newsrama, one more thing that the director regrets is not having to explore "The Gentleman," the man in the hat that would have organized the Sinister Six, or Venom -Marvel's supervillains that he would've included if "Amazing Spider-Man 3" have gone forward. Despite this, he is still hopeful that the studio would address those antagonists at some point.
Meanwhile, Sony's "Spider-Man" reboot will star "The Impossible" and "Wolf Hall" actor Tom Holland as the new Peter Parker. Helmed by Sundance director Jon Watts, the live-action film is scheduled to debut on July 28, 2017.
