"Birdman" director Alejandro G. Inarritu's "The Revenant" has released its very first trailer, featuring Leonardo Dicaprio getting mauled by a bear. The survival drama is predicted to be the "Wolf of Wall Street" actor's entry for this year's Oscar season. New Regency and 20th Century Fox's upcoming survival drama is slated to hit theaters on Christmas Day, before going wide on Jan 2016.
After dominating the Oscars last year with his brilliant masterpiece "Birdman", the award-winning director, Alejandro G. Inarritu, is bringing another feature film to the big screen. The Huffington Post reports that "The Revenant", is a new drama that follows a legendary explorer named Hugh Glass (Leonardo Dicaprio) and his struggle for survival in the American wilderness. As seen in the action-heavy trailer, he quests for revenge after his own expedition team left him for dead when he gets mauled by a wild bear.
Based on Michael Punke's 2003 novel of the same name, "The Revenant" co-stars Tom Hardy ("Mad Max: Fury Road", "The Dark Knight Rises"), Domhall Gleeson ("Ex Machina", "Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens"), and Will Poulter ("The Maze Runners", "We're The Millers"). The film reunites Dicaprio ("The Great Gatsby", "The Wolf of Wall Street") and Hardy who was noted to have already worked together in the 2010 sci-fi heist thriller flick "Inception").
According to Variety, "The Revenant" has been generating a lot of Oscar buzz lately. Despite the handful Oscar nominations, it is noted that Dicaprio is still currently empty-handed. His inclusion in the latest film of Inarritu who bagged four wins in the Academy Awards last year, is predicted to be the actor's entry for this year's Oscar season.
New Regency and 20th Century Fox's upcoming survival thriller "The Revenant" is slated to open in limited release on December 25, and a wide release on January 8, 2016.
