Sigourney Weaver recently revealed that the 2004 'Alien vs. Predator' was too depressing that she decided to kill her character, Ellen Ripley, in 'Alien 3'. Despite this, she is slated to come back as the same character in the upcoming 'Alien 5', which is predicted to pick up after James Cameron's "Aliens".
The fans would probably refer "Alien 3" as the worst movie in the franchise, having the iconic and fan-favorite character Ripley killed at the end. She might have been resurrected as a clone in "Alien Resurrection" but most of its viewers still haven't forgiven David Fincher for what he did in the sequel. Little did the fans know that it was actress Sigourney Weaver's decision to kill off Ripley according to an Entertainment Weeky report.
Speaking with London Times at Comic-Con on Sunday, the 65-year-old actress revealed that the 2004 crossover sequel "Aliens vs. Predator" is the real culprit to blame. "I heard that Fox was gonna do 'Alien vs Predator', which really depressed me because I was very proud of the movies," she explained. "I've nothing against building a movie on a video game, but at the time it was, as Jim Cameron said, I think publicly, 'Why would you want to do that'? It's like making Alien meets the Wolfman."
On the contrary, the actress is very enthusiastic to come back as Ellen Ripley in Neill Blomkamp's "Alien 5". She also acknowledged the filmmaker's fandom towards the long-running sci-fi franchise. Weaver also briefly teased what to expect from the fifth "Alien" film, which says the possibility of Ripley getting a much-deserved happy ending. "Well - it's certainly something we've discussed," she said. "I agree, she's had kind of a crap life. Many interruptions."
Meanwhile, Blomkamp has recently posted some new "Alien 5" concept art in his Instagram account, captioning "#alien going very well. Love this project". Featuring Weaver's Ripley and Michael Biehn's Hicks, Den of Geek predicts that the new film might pick up after James Cameron's "Aliens", considering how ambiguous the story can be if it follows the timeline of "Alien 3" and "Alien: Resurrection".
What do you think about all this? Are you happier knowing Sigourney Weaver is responsible for Ripley's death? And are you excited for her come back in "Alien 5"? Leave your comments below.
