Oscar award winner Benicio del Toro is the latest pick by Disney and Lucasfilm to play the villain for the 'Star Wars: Episode VIII.' There are no concrete details yet about the offer, or if del Toro would accept it, though it has surfaced that the possibility is tantamount.
Being able to produce threats in notion, Benicio Del Toro would be more compelling to fit the sci-fi sequel. He had been casted in 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' his role however was not that big, and he had dropped hints that returning in the sequel might be on the dark side. Del Toro was 'The Collector' in the said film, which was directed by James Gunn.
'Star Wars: Episode VIII' will be helmed by Rian Johnson and will be produced by Ram Bergman. Starting next year, the shooting will begin, as it has a play date which falls on the 26th of May, 2017, according to The Wrap. Oscar Isaac, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley will also be part of the 'Star Wars' universe.
Though Benicio del Toro had been part of sci-fi films in the recent years, his niche was action-packed films. He starred in the film 'Traffic' where he earned his best supporting award in Oscars in 2000. Also, he's in 'Sicario,' a film that he leads along with award-winner Emily Blunt.
Del Toro is also up for the film 'The Trap,' which is a thriller movie by Harmony Korine to be released in 2017 alongside Al Pacino, James Franco and Idris Elba.
As the Daily Mail UK reported, when Walt Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 the reboot for the 'Star Wars' franchise was on talks again.
Disney will release its spin-off film 'Star Wars: Rogue One' wherein rebels would try to take away the plans to the first Death Star, according to the Guardian.
