Lionsgate, in collaboration with Millenium Films and Hong Kong-based game developer Fifth Journey, is currently developing a mobile game based on the hit action flick "The Expendables". The highly anticipated fourth installment of the film series is predicted to coincide with the mobile game's 2016 premiere.
The fans of the action film series might be in no luck yet on getting a new update on the film "The Expendables 4". But Lionsgate is making sure that their excitement towards the sequel continues to upsurge. Recently, the studio has made a bold move to bring the action franchise into the world of mobile gaming. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate has partnered with Millenium Films and Hong Kong-based game developer Fifth Journey to work on a mobile gaming application based on the movie series.
Lionsgate's head honcho in interactive ventures and games, Peter Levin, and the co-founder and CEO of Fifth Element, Eric Tan, have made the announcement. According to Levin, the collaboration for the development of the said mobile game is the "perfect cross-platform" merger between a powerful brand, a global franchise, and high-end technology.
This is not the first time that the franchise will be entering the gaming world though. Master Herald notes that a PC game was first released the same time "The Expendables 2" premiered four years ago. It was then followed by another video game titled "The Expendables 2: Deploy and Destroy". Two years after the franchise's third installment came out, the studio has again launched a game called "The Expendabros" -a hybrid based on the video game "Broforce" and the movie "The Expendables 3."
According to Variety, "The Expendables" mobile game will likely be available for smart phones and tablet owners by the end of 2016. Based on the whole franchise, the game is slated to feature characters played by an ensemble cast composed of Sylvester Stallone ("Rocky"), Arnold Schwarzenegger ("Terminator"), Bruce Willis, Jason Statham ("Transporter"), Jet Li ("The Forbidden Kingdom"), Dolph Lundgren ("The Mechanik"), and many more.
Though there is no confirmation yet regarding the release of its fourth movie, some predicts that it might coincide with the release of the game, considering the 2-year gap the franchise follows. Since the last film came out on 2014, it is possible that "The Expendables 4" will premiere in 2016.
