Blizzard just threw a major get-together in celebration of the new Hearthstone expansion. The Grand Tournament was launched July 22 in an event held by Blizzard in San Francisco. The upcoming expansion will feature new collectible cards and the new 'Inspire' mechanics.
The event was held at the Folsom Street Foundry in San Francisco, and was attended by Hearthstone community members Frodan and Kripparrian, along with Eric Dodds, the game's director. The public announcement was posted last week through Battle.Net, inviting to join the official Facebook event in order to reserve limited slots. For those that are too far away, however, websites like GameSpot went online to stream the game's official Twitch Channel.
The very animated trailer features the new board that players can download when the new expansion officially launches next month. Packs are also ready for pre-purchasing, which will unlock an exclusive cardback for the same price of the current card sets. New card can be viewed at the official Grand Tourney website via Battle.Net. The update is set following the Lich King Expansion from World of Warcraft just after the Argent Tournament World Event. Details on where The Grand Tournament originated can be read in a short summary courtesy of PCGamer.
The Grand Tournament is a large card expansion that will be introducing 132 new unique cards that will "bring fresh new blood to your Hearthstone games with original play mechanics and valiant knights galore". A new play mechanic is also introduced, with a new keyword: Inspire! The Inspire! Ability activates when Hero Power is used. The official Tourney website also features some of the new cards that can be collected for a player's deck.
Hearthstone: Heroes of Newerth is an online, free-to-play collectibe card game available for Windows, OS X, iOS, and Android systems. The Grand Tournament is the latest expansion of Blizzard's successful CCG.
