After almost a decade, Avatar 2 is finally in the works. Sully and the tribe are said to dive into the Pandora ocean, as director James Cameron developed a motion-capture technology to be able to film underwater for the movie. Zoe Saldana has revealed that the movie will touch the viewers' emotions.
Since its release in 2009. Avatar has been dubbed to be the highest grossing movie, earning more than $2.7 billion worldwide. After almost a decade, fans will finally be able to watch the tribe in the big screen as the script has reportedly been finished for its sequels, Avatar 2, 3, and 4.
Production is said to be going on for the movie, with specialists currently designing creatures, settings, and characters for the movie. Like the first film, filming for the second movie is also said to take place in New Zealand. While it has not been confirmed yet, 20th Century Fox CEO Jim Gianopulos said a Christmas 2017 release for the movie is likely, and that its subsequent sequels might also be released on the same date in 2018, and 2019 respectively.
As to the delay of the film, Gianopulos said "James Cameron has his own pace." He also said that he paid Cameron a visit in New Zealand, and said that Cameron's ideas and works for the movie is breathtaking. "It's a room... which is covered floor to ceiling with images, characters, worlds, settings," he said. "It's the most amazing, breathtaking thing you've ever seen. His challenge is to put all of that in a movie." Gianopulos added.
Also, part of the reason for the film's delay is said to be due to a motion-capture technology that Cameron developed for the movie. Because of this, reports suggest that fans might witness a lot of underwater scenes for the upcoming film.
Meanwhile, actress Zoe Saldana revealed that she had a glimpse of the Avatar 2 script as Cameron told them about the story, and it reportedly made her "choke up", hinting that the sequel might probably touch the hearts of its viewers.
Avatar 2 is directed and written for screenplay by James Cameron with Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver. Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington are set to reprise their roles as Neytiri, and Jake Sully while Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang are also set to come back despite that their characters died in the first film.
