‘Gambit’ Update: Channing Tatum Exits Fox’s ‘X-Men’ Spinoff; Rupert Wyatt Remains Director

20^th Century Fox's upcoming "Gambit" movie may be in jeopardy as Channing Tatum is reportedly dropping out of the project. Rupert Wyatt will still direct the 'X-Men' spinoff,which is scheduled to open in cinemas October next year.

It was only two weeks ago when Channing Tatum hyped everyone at the Comic-Con about his upcoming film 'Gambit'. Now, the internet rumor mill reports that the said superhero movie may never happen after all. The Wrap claims that the "Foxcatcher" actor is considering walking away from the comic book project for an undisclosed reason.

Though the details are unclear, the source says that Tatum's representatives are still in "active discussions" with the studio, and that the attached director, Rupert Wyatt ("Rise of the Planet Apes"), is still on board. 20^th Century Fox has reportedly been in the process of testing young actresses, including "SPECTRE's" Lea Seydoux, to star opposite Tatum. But with the rumors of the actor's departure, it is uncertain whether the project is moving forward with the same leading man or not.

If the rumors are to be believed, this would, no doubt, be a disappointment for Fox, as well as the fans. The 35-year-old actor was already attached to play the role of the Raging Cajun since day one. Not only did he spearheaded the project, he has also been promoting it big time. He was noted to have posed along with the cast of "X-Men" back at the 2015 San Diego Comic Con, to excite the fans of the studio's growing universe.

Apart from that, Tatum has also started gearing up for the eponymous character through card-throwing sessions and New Orleans accent practices. In fact, he was even slated to produce the upcoming film, making this news quite the surprise. Hopefully, this ordeal will be resolved quickly as the film is scheduled to premiere on October 7, 2016.

Currently, the studio and from his representatives has given no confirmation yet concerning this report.
