"A Song of Ice and Fire" author George R.R. Martin says "Winds of Winter" is expected to have differences from HBO's adaptation, "Game of Thrones", because of the medium's limitations. The highly anticipated novel may be released before 2015 ends.
In an interview with New York Jets player D'Brickshaw Ferguson, George R.R. Martin expressed the "overwhelming" feeling of how popular HBO's TV adaptation of his book has become. It was noted that on 2011 the network adapted his novel series into a show called "Game of Thrones". Because of the popularity and positive reception it earned, the author is now pressured to deliver quality material to its fans. Martin, however, encouraged them to consider the novel and the show as two different interpretations.
Yibada reports that Martin reminded the viewers as well as the readers to realize that it is not necessary to point out each and every difference between the two mediums. He explained that it the showrunners have to deviate from the novel sometimes due to the limited capacity of television. According to him, each novel is 1,500 long in manuscript. If the show would sincerely follow the book, it would be still in the first season until now.
As previously reported, he also decided not to write any more episodes for the show in the future in order to finish writing the novels. Though there are numerous potential writers that could pen the series, he pointed out that only he could finish the novel.
Earlier this week, the 66-year-old author posted on his official blog, suggesting that the long wait for the fifth installment of the book series may be over soon. According to Christian Post, Martin revealed he will be travelling to New York and New Jersey. Many fans speculate that he may have finished writing the long-awaited "Winds of Winter", given his earlier statement of cancelling engagements and guest appearances until he completes the novel.
If the rumors are true, then the book would be probably released before 2015 ends. The author and his representatives refused to reveal further information regarding its release though.
