Channing Tatum has been set for Fox's X-Men spinoff "Gambit," the studio had been working on locking his female lead Belladonna Boudreaux and finally found her with the French actress and currently Bond girl Lea Seydoux.
The "X-Men" spinoff movie "Gambit" starring Tatum, had been screening actresses to play the Cajun superhero's lady love Belladonna Boudreaux for a while now. With actress from "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation" Rebecca Ferguson and Abbey Lee, who has landed "Neon Demon's" co-lead being mooted. Now Bella had been cast, she is set to play by Lea Seydoux, who is currently a Bond woman in the 007 film "Spectre."
The process of screen testing for the actresses went on for couple of weeks and most definitely, the 30 year old actress has impressed the right people. Seydoux got some advantage in her portfolio for the character having played as an assassin in "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol." Not to mention being a recipient of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or award for her role in the highly praised romantic drama "Blue is the Warmest Colour."
In X-Men lore, Bella was Gambit's love since childhood and former wife. Gambit, aka Remy LeBeau, was head of the Thieves Guild. They had an arranged marriage that will unify the Thieves and the Assassins Guild. Belladonna's brother was envious of Remy and when he was defeated in a fight to the death he initiated against Remy. Gambit was then exiled to New Orleans. She later became the head of the Assassin's Guild and ultimately gained powers of her own.
Remy met Professor Xavier and and eventually joined the "X-Men." Since then,Remy has proven himself multiple times to be a skilled fighter and a superhero with his ability to transform any object into a lethal weapon using kinetic energy.
Belladonna, possesses psychic powers. She has the gift of astral projection, and it aids her in giving sleight of hand to various objects with her mind. She is a skilled fighter and assassin and she can also produce "plasma blasts. Twentieth Century Fox is keeping mum about the plot details of the project. The amount of Bella's role in the film is uncertain.
Directed by Rupert Wyatt ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes"), "Gambit" is scheduled to film from October 13 through mid-February 2016. It is slated for release on Oct. 7, 2016.
