'Five Nights At Freddy's' is currently in development under Warner Bros. Director Gil Kenan, of 'Poltergeist' and 'Monster House' fame, teased more set photos on his social media accounts and planned to avoid CGI in favor of real animatronics.
According to Paste Magazine, Warner Bros. is actively at work on the indie videogame big-screen adaptation after it acquired the rights from the series. It may follow the original story line that centered on a night guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza as he endures creepy and potentially fatal work shifts.
So far there have been 12 main villains in the four-part games. These murderous animatronics include the titular Freddy and his crew consisting of Foxy, Chica, and Bonnie. The goal of the games was the ultimate survival of the player after-hours.
Its real appeal lay on the sadistic twist that the player is only armed with security cameras and cannot stray from his position inside an office while he monitors a dark pizza joint for anomalies. It was speculated that the upcoming film may be relying on a PG-13 rating to let more young viewers see it in cinemas. Producers may be hoping of turning it into a successful horror movie franchise in the future.
In an article by Design & Trend, Gil Kenan shared some on-set photos of his on-going project with Warner Bros. on his personal Twitter account. One post showed a black and red curtain with a bilingual warning sign that announced 'Caution: Curtain will go up and down without warning.'
It was reported that fans may recognize it as an indirect hint of what Kenan's film will contain. Theories have it that Foxy will appear as one of the film's antagonists since he is known to hide behind a curtain in an attraction called Pirate's Cove although its original purple color doesn't resemble the one posted.
Another of Kenan's posts also showed a death scene in an arcade captioned 'Heads I Win'. It was noted for its significance in the games as the infamous Bite of '87. This tweet also fueled speculations on whether the back story will appear anywhere in the upcoming film adaptation together with the deadly real-life animatronics promised in previous reports.
According to News Everyday, Kenan planned on creating and employing animatronics for the villainous robots from the video game and staying away from computer generated special effects. He is also actively collaborating with game creator Scott Cawthon in order to maintain elements similar to that of his horror survival game. Although the director would like to explore other angles for the 'Five Nights At Freddy's' movie story line, he pointed out that he would stay true to the series' "mythology".
'Five Nights At Freddy's' is an upcoming horror film inspired by the popular horror survival game of the same name. It is most famous for its homicidal animatronic animals and simplistic gameplay and it recently released its fourth and final installation in the game series. The first three games are set in a pizza joint while the last is set in a child's bedroom.
