After its blockbuster disappointment last year, there is no confirmed news whether Sylvester Stallone is up to produce "Expendables 4." However, rumors on its production are rising as wrestler Hulk Hogan claimed that he was being tapped for the villain role.
During the Body Power Expo at the NEC Arena in Birmingham, England last weekend, Hogan claimed that he was on the phone with Stallone about doing the fourth part of the action movie franchise.
"We're trying to figure out a way to maybe turn me into the most evil man in the world," the veteran wrestler said. "Y'know, Stallone gave me my first break and he's been a great friend for all these years ... We had a great conversation, talking about the possibilities. Can I still run, can I still jump? Well, not as fast or not as high, but I think Hollywood could find a good stunt man to help me out."
Aside from Hogan, Jason Statham also said in an interview with IGN that he would still like to do more projects in "The Expendables" franchise.
Moreover, in an interview with USA Today, Arnold Schwarzenegger said that he is still convinced that "there's definitely room for another one." They just need a good plot with a touch of comedy to make it a hit. Boxer Manny Pacquiao is also rumored to be included in the cast.
Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Kellan Lutz, and Ronda Rousey were among the famous names who joined Statham, Schwarzenegger, and Stallone in the third instalment.
Last year's "The Expendables 3" staggered at the box office, grossing approximately $206 million worldwide, with only $39.3 million in the US alone and $15.9 million in its opening.
The 2014 release was greatly affected by a leaked copy that spread onto piracy sites three weeks before the film's debut in the big screen. In fact, Schwarzenegger admitted that he never knew how piracy could have so much effect on his work.
Amidst its blockbuster catastrophe, the 2014 action flick was also greatly bashed by critics for its seemingly uncontrolled cast, lack of a more challenging plot, and unimpressive CGI. Because "The Expendables 3" was moved to a PG-13 rating to cater to a wider group of audiences, it had to lessen its onscreen violence.
Fans will just have to wait if Stallone is indeed up for the challenge of redeeming the franchise with "The Expendables 4."
