"50 Shades of Grey" lead Dakota Johnson is set to play a huge role not only in the big screen but also for the environment as she stars in the movie, "Chloe & Theo", with Mira Sorvino and Theo Ikummaq to premiere in selected theaters on September 4. The film is set to focus on the effects of climate change and the power of consumerism. Ezna Sands is the director and writer, while Monica Ord is the producer.
"Chloe & Theo" is loosely based on the real life of Theo Ikummaq, an Inuit from the Arctic, who journeys from "the top of the Earth" to New York City to inform world leaders about the horrible impact that climate change is bringing to his people. Upon reaching the Big Apple, Ikummaq meets a homeless girl named Chloe, to be played by Johnson, and together they try to spread his message, and in doing so, saving the world.
According to Eco Watch, Ord, who is neither a climate scientist nor filmmaker, first heard Ikummaq's story from a friend, producer Lloyd Phillips. Upon hearing his tale, Ord went spent time in the man's homeland. There, she was able to join Inuit elders on a dog-sled expedition in the arctic to see for herself the catastrophic impact of climate change.
"What's happening in the Arctic, to Theo's people, and many indigenous groups on this planet is real," said the producer. "Nothing is going to change until we care enough to feel their suffering as if it's our own. If this little film can help move the needle to reach people's hearts and minds, I will be eternally grateful. "This film has a strong environmental theme, but it has a much stronger humanitarian message," Sands said.
Variety also reported that ARC Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to the movie, wherein its head of acquisition, Scott Moesta, said, that they are"absolutely thrilled to be distributing this film on the bigscreen and various platforms for fans across the U.S. to enjoy."
ARC Entertainment was the distributor of "Field of Lost Shoes," "Autumn Blood," and "A Little Game," according to The Wrap.
