The year 2015 has been an interesting time for Warner Bros. After the disappointing turn-outs for many of its movies, critics are again questioning its decision why it moved the release date of "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavil from July 17 this year to spring 2016.
WB's "Magic Mike XXL," "Vacation, and "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." struggled in the box office. Only "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "San Andreas" were able to succeed.
Warner Bros. Executive revealed to The Hollywood Reporter how they had to make a tough cut this year in order to make Snyder's movie better for the betterment of the DC Extended Universe.
"It was a tough decision at the time because it was going to create a hole in 2015," he said. "But it was absolutely the right decision for the franchise, for DC and the movie. Having seen the movie multiple times, and again last night, I'm extremely confident it was the right decision to make the movie better. And it's so important for the studio to get the foundation right on DC."
However, in terms of marketing and publicity stunts, WB has succeeded in causing traffic for "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad," reported Cinema Blend. In fact, the company dominated the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con, particularly because of its heroes such as Batman, Superman, Joker, and Harley Quinn.
According to Forbes, Warner Bros. is banking on the idea that one potential gigantic blockbuster, with possible franchise options is worth more than the success of a dozen of small-scale movies.
In 2016, the company is bound to release an army of 17 movies, including the upcoming DC frontrunner and J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" follow-up "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
Warner Bros. will have to see whether their huge risk will pay off as "Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavil will premiere on March 25, 2016.
