DC Comics' "Justice League: Gods and Monsters" not only updated fans about the stories of their favorite heroes, but also gained two thumbs up from critics and comic book enthusiasts.
According to Movie Pilot, DC's latest work might be the strongest one compared to the past couple of animated films released.
Meanwhile, IGN enticed its readers to watch the movie because Wonder Woman and Superman's stories were far more interesting than Batman's.
In spite of Marvel's dominance in the Cinematic Universe, DC is still in the lead when it comes to animated films. What is even cooler with DC's films is that the plots of the animated and the live-action versions take opposite directions: fans will get to see different back stories and characters of the heroes altogether.
"Justice League: Gods And Monsters" is a 76-minute story focused on DC Comic's most famous trio: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
Superman will be coming from a totally different father, Batman spawning as a blood-sucker with super strength, and Wonder Woman as a self-exiled granddaughter of gods. Washington Post's article has a more detailed synopsis here.
As both a praise and a warning, Washington Post commended that the production team took advantage of the PG-13 rating as it was able to add a ton of profanity and gore. There were a lot of scenes that showed blood, electrocutions, brutal beatings, a body being torn apart, and a lot more violence.
[Spoilers from here onwards]
Here are a few Easter Eggs from the animated movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
House of Zod
As one of the biggest contradictions from the original DC story, it turned out that Superman's father is not Jor-El, but Zod. As for the rest, Superman still came from his doomed home world Krypton.
Superman's "roots"
Superman was still a farmer in "Justice League: Gods And Monsters." However, there was no Jonathan and Martha Kent. Instead, her was raised by migrant farmers in Mexico, and was given the name Hernan Guerra.
"Game of Thrones" References
In the animated movie, there were mad gods, arranged marriages, and peace treaties. From those points, GOT fans can see the references.
DC also announced the creation of the animated adaptation of the Batman story, "The Killing Joke." But as of now, the world of DC's animated films, Batman and Wonder Woman are dominating because of "Justice League: Gods And Monsters."
