"A Song of Ice and Fire" author George R.R. Martin says HBO might finish "Game of Thrones" even before the last book of his best-selling book series comes out. "The Winds of Winter" will be followed by "A Dream of Spring", the seventh installment which is said to conclude the novel series.
HBO's adaptation has finally caught up with George R.R. Martin's book series "A Song of Ice and Fire". With this, many fans are worried that the TV show, "Game of Thrones", might overtake his best-selling novels. Martin himself admitted this saying that "the show is moving forward like a locomotive, or sometimes a jet locomotive". However, the 60-year-old writer is not worried that the TV adaptation would finish first before the novel series.
"There was a period where I was worried about that," he confessed to Geekwire. "Then I said, to hell with that. Worrying about it isn't going to change it one way or another." Martin stressed that the showrunners are only writing 60-paged scripts compared to the 1,500-paged books he is attached to write. Thus, the possibility of overtaking the books and overshadowing them is understandable. "I still sit down at the typewriter and write the next scene and the next sentence," he said. "I'm just going to tell my story, and they're telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see."
Currently, HBO's "Game of Thrones" is already in production for its sixth season while Martin is still working on "The Winds of Winter", the book it is supposed to be based on. The author still remains mum as to when the sixth installment will be released. But Martin has previously teased that he has something "bittersweet" in mind for the conclusion of the novel series.
"The Winds of Winter" will be followed by "A Dream of Spring", the seventh and rumored final book of Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire".
