"East Los High" star Gabriel Chavarria lands one of the human lead roles in 20th Century Fox's upcoming "War of the Planet of the Apes". The young actor's part is said to be similar to James Franco's in the 2011 film. The next installment of the franchise is expected to open in cinemas on July 2017.
20th Century Fox's "Planet of the Apes" sequel may obviously be about the titular primates, but it certainly needs a few humans to butt heads with. And just today, the studio has finally found one for its upcoming "War of the Planet of the Apes". Deadline reports that young actor Gabriel Chavarria has just been cast as one of the two human leads in the movie.
The young actor started his on-screen career back in 2007 with a role in the drama flick "Freedom Writers". According to Cinema Blend, Chavarria has spent most of his time on the small screen, appearing in single episodes of a few shows like "Southland", "Prime Suspect", and "Major Crimes". He then got a recurring role as Jacob Aguilar in the 2013 tee drama series "East Los High". As for his big screen performance, he just recently got a key role opposite Demian Bechir in the upcoming "Low Riders".
At this point, there are no specific details yet about the part he will be playing. However it is reported that the role will be similar to James Franco's in 2011's "Rise of the Planet Apes". It is also unclear who exactly are reprising their roles for the franchise's next installment which will continue the story of Ceasar (Andy Serkis), the evolved aped. What is known for now is that director Matt Reeves of "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is returning as the sequel's helmer.
"War of the Planet of the Apes" is scheduled to commence filming this October for a July 14, 2017worldwide release.
