Vin Diesel Confirms ‘xXx 3’; Production to Commence in the Philippines This December For A Possible 2017 Release

Vin Diesel has confirmed through an Instagram post that he will return as Xander Cage in the long-promised "xXx 3". The "Furious 7" actor announced that its principal photography is set to commence in the Philippines this December for a possible 2017 release.

More than a decade after his appearance as Xander Cage, Vin Diesel is finally reprising the role of the extreme athlete/government agent. On Sunday, the 48-year-old actor took to Instagram to announce the news that "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage" is indeed happening. "While I was filming XXX, guys on set called me Air Diesel... The time to return has come. Filming starts December in the Philippines," Diesel wrote.

For those who need a refresher, the 2002 spy-fi franchise centered on the underground extreme sports star Xander Cage (Diesel) who ended up being recruited by NASA operative Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson). It was followed by a sequel titled "xXx: State of the Union" in 2005 wherein the actor did not appear. According to Irish examiner, prior to the release of the second film, a short movie was launched featuring Cage being blown up -all so Ice Cube could take over the sequel.

There are no specific details released yet as to where "xXx 3" would pick up -whether the short film will be included in the storyline or not. What is known for now is that "Terminator Salavation" scribes Michael Ferris and John Bracanto wrote the latest draft for the upcoming third installment. "Furious" series producer Neal H. Mortiz has boarded the project as the producer. Currently, there is no director attached to helm the movie. But with roughly four months left before its production, the position will surely be filled anytime soon.

Tentatively titled as "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage", the franchise's long-awaited third installment is predicted to open in cinemas sometime in 2017.
