Veronica Roth's "Divergent: Allegiant" movie is sticking to the ending of the book series. Shailene Woodley, who plays Tris in the Divergent movie series, verified in a latest interview that the franchise has decided not to meddle with the novel's ending in its adaptation as a feature film.
Despite rumors that have been going around that there is a big possibility of a Divergent series having a different ending from the book, author Veronica Roth decided to be faithful on the original ending. In the conclusion of the novel, the protagonist Tris, was written to be sacrificing herself in order to save the greater good, hence, a happy ending for her and Four will not be found. Thus, the readers who love happy endings are passionate for an alternate ending in the movie.
The ending of the novel is considered tragic, so it was seriously considered to find a way to let the heroine lives. The article said that this led the makers of the film to look for a different action for the ending, to make it more palatable for the viewers. However, this won't happen.
In a recent interview with "The Fault In Our Stars" star Shailene Woodley, who plays Tris, she expressed how refreshing the series' ending is. She thinks that it's a beautiful decision that Veronica made. "I mean, how often is it that somebody you really admire and who does take selfless risks every day ends up living." Woodley said. Woodley's co-star, Theo James, agreed with his co-star and explained that the ending is appropriate for the kind of character Tris is.
In another interview, Roth acknowledged the enthusiasm of the fans on getting an alternate, happy ending. She said she ended "Allegiant" in a way she felt it needed to end. She said that she wrote Allegiant that way because she thought that was the only way that the story is needed to be told. "I feel very strongly about it, obviously. I know people feel strongly about it, too, and that's fine," Roth said
The book series tells about the ruined society of Chicago in the future. It's a society which eradicates independent thinking, and the citizens are mandated to conform to their social and personality related connections with five different factions.
Part one of "Divergent: Allegiant" premieres in theaters nationwide on March 18, 2016. The part two of the movie is set to premiere a year after.
