"Spectre" actress Lea Seydoux is reportedly in the frame to play the titular mutant's childhood love, Bella Donna Boudreaux, in the upcoming movie "Gambit". Rupert Wyatt's stand-alone "X-Men" film is slated to open in cinemas fall next year.
After months of being the frontrunner for the female lead, French actress Lea Seydoux appears to have finally landed the role. Blastr reports she has won the hotly contested role, routing "Mission: Impossible -Rogue Nation" actress Rebecca Ferguson and "Mad Max: Fury Road" star Abbey Lee who were both among the shortlist. Currently, she is reportedly already in talks to star opposite Channing Tatum in 20th Century Fox's "Gambit".
Seydoux is slated to play the role of Bella Donna Boudreaux whom the titular mutant met in his childhood years. According to Slash Film, the two separately belongs to the rival origanizations: the Bella to the Assassin's Guild and Gambit to the Thieves' Guild. In order to create peace between the two groups, their fathers arranged the pair for marriage. Predictably, the plan goes awry when the titular mutant kills Bella's brother who challenged him in a fit of anger.
Bella Donna's character, though not an X-Man, has mutant super powers. She is said to have the ability to to astrally project herself and eject plasma blasts.
According to Inverse, the 30-year-old actress broke out in the romantic coming-of-age drama "Blue is the Warmest Color". She is known to have also appeared in 2011's "Midnight in Paris" and 2014's "The Grand Budapest Hotel". Though most of her roles are no assassin-related, her appearance in the upcoming action film "Spectre" has surely prepped her for her part.
Rupert Wyatt will direct the upcoming "X-Men" movie with a script from "Robocop" writer Josh Zetumer. Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner are producing the film which is expected to commence production this fall.
"Gambit" is scheduled to open in theaters on October 7, 2016.
