"Ghostbusters" reboot star Melissa McCarthy introduces all the remarkable women behind the female-led movie with a #GirlPower photo. This is said to be the actress' response to the haters who have been constantly bashing Paul Feig's movie. The upcoming film is scheduled to open in theaters on July 2016.
Lead star Melissa McCarthy wants the world to know that she and her co-stars Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon are not the only leading ladies in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" reboot. The 46-year-old actress recently shared how much girl power the new version of the movie is carrying, with a photo that features the impressive female cast and crew of the film. The dozens of women participating includes actress Cecily Strong and writer Katie Dippold, plus numerous stuntwomen, hair and make-up artists, production assistants, prop stylists, and more.
"When we stand together we are unstoppable! #GirlPower," McCarthy wrote on her Twitter, also giving shout-out to fellow girl-power advocate Ellen DeGeneres. According to Paste Magazine, the talk show host and Gap's 'Girl Power' is a social movement that DeGeneres' own lifestyle and clothing company "ED" has long advocated for. It aims to inspire young girls to be vocal and proud of their individual strength.
The photo appears to be in lieu with the recent bashing that the all-female movie has received, as well as the gender inequality the show business still somehow observes today. As previously reported the "Ghostbusters" reboot has been subject to disapprovals in social media after director Paul Feig announced that it will be a female version. McCarthy validates their hard work not only in front of the camera but behind it as well, in order to tell the bashers that women deserve the same kind of opportunities as men in filmmaking and television.
Meanwhile, Feig's "Ghostbusters" reboot will also star Australian actor Chris Hemsworth ("Thor") as the titular team's secretary, Kevin. It is expected to open in cinemas on July 15, 2016.
