Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain a stealth game to be reckoned with; Is it Hideo Kojima’s last project?

By

The much-anticipated and publicized Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will finally be released this week. The new Metal Gear Solid installment is a sequel to last year's Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes but a prequel to the Metal Gear game. Konami pronounced it to be the "Game of the Year - Guaranteed."

According to MCV UK, it had been 7 years since there was a full console Metal Gear game. Although there were other releases before, The Phantom Pain is the first proper Metal Gear game. The report also mentioned how the gaming industry today is flooded with first- and third-person shooter, while Metal Gear Solid stays afloat as a stealth game.

But Konami's Marketing Executive Jon Edwards was quick to defend their title, as picked up by MCV UK. "Is there really a stealth market? I'd argue that Metal Gear Solid is pretty much the only proper stealth title, and even then it is just a part of the whole. Sneaking is a key part of the game, but The Phantom Pain transcends such limitations, with decoys, snipers, a buddy system, and weapon drops and airstrikes. I would argue it is a true combat title, with stealth elements. And, thus, one of a kind."

Gamespot had compiled the critics' scores and comments regarding the game in its article on August 24. The site and IGN both gave The Phantom Pain a perfect score of 10; citing the game's impeccable story telling. EGM Now gave it a 9.5 while Game Informer scored it 9.25 and mentioned Hideo Kojima's pivotal role in the franchise. Destructoid and Press Start both gave the installment a 9. On the other hand, Examiner and Daily Dot gave the game a passing mark of 5. The long cut scenes were again criticized, known of Kojima's takes on this series.

Konami is banking on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain to be the best game of the year, as it will also have its release on PC plus the big marketing plan being tapped for the game. But with Hideo Kojima being cut off from the Konami recently, will this be his last project to the franchise? Phantom Pain will be released on September 1 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
