‘Assassin’s Creed’ Film Director Justin Kurzel Optimistic About His Videogame Adaptation; Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard All Set for September Filming

'Assassin's Creed' director Justin Kurzel is optimistic about his live-action adaptation of the famous videogame. Actors Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are all set for filming to start on September.

According to IGN, the director behind critically-acclaimed films such as 'Snowtown', 'The Turning' and the latest 'Macbeth' is more than excited about his upcoming project. Kurzel opened up about how his portrayal would stand out from previous videogame adaptations, which unfortunately have reputations of lukewarm reception.

He said, "Because I think there's so much underneath it... I don't think it's your typical shoot-em-up game. I don't think it's your typical one-dimensional game. It has a heart and a history to it."

He continued to explain that deep human connection through generations plays a large part in the 'Assassin's Creed' story's relatability. He pointed out that this novel concept may be a reason why the game itself has 90 million dedicated players.

With Hollywood headliners Fassbender and Cotillard set to join the filmmaking genius, it's not a surprise that fans have turned to the 'Assassin's Creed' movie to help revolutionize the videogame film industry.

Expectations run high for the pool of multi-awarded talent. In an article from Inverse.com, for example, game adaptations certainly have been done before but few were received generously. It was reported that perhaps only the 'Resident Evil' franchise came close to box office success.

'Assassin's Creed' may break the mediocrity with its intriguing and wholly complex story line complete with time travel and epic journeys through historical lands.

Fassbender and Cotillard have no officially defined roles as of the present. However, with the filming date drawing nearer, several speculations have begun to come up. According to Forbes.com, Fassbender revealed that he won't be playing the series' main protagonist Desmond Miles. The article stated that he may be playing a character named Joseph/Aguilar de Agarobobo with Cotillard as a woman ally.

He could also portray a certain Michael Lynch, a Templar prisoner. None of these reported roles have been confirmed so far. The upcoming film will be the newest movie both actors have worked together in - the previous being Kurzel's 'Macbeth'.

'Assassin's Creed' is an upcoming action-adventure film adapted from the videogame series of the same name. It is set to be released on December 21, 2016.
