‘Star Wars Episode VIII’: Director Rian Johnson Narrows Down List For Female Lead Role Into Three; Which One Of Them Gets It?

Director Rian Johnson has casted three female actresses for a lead role in "Star Wars Episode VIII." The names are Tatiana Maslany, Olivia Cooke and Gina Rodriguez. It is still uncertain as to who will get the role. It will be a contention of sorts based on previous roles played.

Slash Film reports that a casting for a female lead role in the "Star Wars Episode VIII" has already been shortlisted to the top three females. The names are Olivia Cooke, Tatiana Maslany and Gina Rodriguez. Olivia Cook is known for her role in "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl." Where she pays that girl diagnosed with Leukemia. As for Tatiana Maslany, she is a multi awarded actress for her movie in "Orphan Black" including Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. While Gina Rodriguez she is known for her role as Jane in the TV series "Jane the Virgin" where she won a Golden Globe award. She has also co-starred with the likes of Dylan O'Brien and Mark Wahlberg.

Ecumenical News says Rian Johnson is the person on the helm to see the "Star Wars Episode VIII" to completion. Objectively, Kathleen Kennedy who is the president for Lucas Film confirmed that they are in search of characters who are "conflicted between good and evil, dark and light." They say that there is not much to get by about the plot except what J.J. Abrams has already made. Abrams was quoted saying that he is thrilled about the performance of Johnson as a director and how he raised the bar to another level of directing with what was already given. Johnson actually penned the script for the movie.

The Mary Sue on the other hand has focused more on John Boyega and his role as Finn. His meeting with J.J.Abrams about the role he will play in the "Star Wars Episode VIII''. Boyega also was very vocal about his gratitude towards his role and his still having a private life. A chemistry test will still be conducted between Johnson and the aspiring leading ladies. Fans will have to wait as to how things will turn out.

The "Star Wars Episode VIII'' will be shown in theaters on May 26, 2017. One notable villain will be played by Benicio Del Toro. Producer Ram Bergman will start production on late 2016. As for Tatiana Maslany, Olivia Cooke and Gina Rodriguez whoever gets the role will either play as the daughter of Hans Solo or as a female lead love interest of Boyega.
