'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End' to Launch Much-Awaited Single-Player Expansion

By

With the release date now rolled out, "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" is ready to feature a single-player expansion. This will be the first in the franchise, but the second for Naughty Dog. "Uncharted 4's" single player DLC will be released, along with other expansions, in the Uncharted Triple Pack.

The single-player mode is not really a new endeavor for Naughty Dog. In fact, because of the success of "The Last of Us" expansion called "Left Behind", it's entirely the reason why the developers wanted to try it out with "Uncharted 4". The team had been pondering on making a single player DLC for "Uncharted", but never found their way through to push it for the action-adventure series, reported in GameSpot.

Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer shared a statement during an interview with the outlet at the GameStop Expo, saying "It worked really well for us for 'The Last of Us'. We thought we could put together a really great piece of content as well [for 'Uncharted 4']." Meyer continued: "I think we rose to the challenge for 'The Last of Us', so we decided we're going to take another shot at it [for 'Uncharted 4']."

But GameZone inferred that the "worked-really-well" part was as if saying, also, that "The Last of Us" expansion made some good money and that they would like to try that route with "Uncharted" again this time. Destructoid, on the other hand, endorsed Naughty Dog for finally believing that a single-player for "Uncharted" is much sensible.

With "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" as Drake's final chapter in the series, the timing of this expansion may prove to be interesting. People are now wondering who will take Drake's place - will it be his brother Sam? Or, his wife Elena? Naughty Dog has not provided much about the DLC yet.

"Left Behind" had allowed players to take the role of Ellie, instead of Ethan - a minor character in the "Last of Us" series. According to Game Rant, this twist provided an opportunity for the DLC to fill in plot elements and flesh out the base game's story. And given that this character shift proved well for "Left Behind", it would not be a shock either if Naughty Dog would apply this formula to "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End". The top candidate would be Sully, as he is a fan favorite. Next in line would either be Sam - his long lost brother, or Elena - Nathan's wife.

No wonder Naughty Dog took some time to confirm the release date for "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End". With this cooking up in their studios, perhaps, it had all been planned out. Likely, any other details to the single-player expansion won't be revealed by Naughty Dog after the game's release in March 2016.
