CBS News says the accuracy of the scientific facts that is shown in the movie "The Martian" was because of the help from NASA itself. Set on a future date 20 years from now Matt Damon plays an astronaut marooned in Mars. His spacesuit, living space, his source of food, basically his way of life was based on how NASA does it at present. Jim Green was quoted saying that the movie is the closest to factual science than any other science fiction movie about a trip to the red planet. He adds that the objective is to actually be able to show the majority what the realistic goal is. How everyone is prepared for tomorrow because they completely understand the message being put across. Jim Green is the Director of Planetary Sciences in NASA. He was hired as a consultant during the course of film making. As for Matt Damon, he hopes that the people who will be able to watch the movie will later on be "excited about science."
"The Martian" co-star Jessica Chastain plays as the team leader who inadvertently left Matt Damon behind. She will also strongly organize the return mission for the retrieval of Matt. LA Times adds that Chastain is a diehard fan for deep research. She immersed herself in everything about space exploration. She spent time and was inspired by astronaut Tracy Caldwell Dyson. Other than that she also met with astronauts and scientists based in Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.
"The Martian" is directed by Ridley Scott according to My Northwest. It will be loaded with a lot of science facts. It is the closest that you can get to fact than fiction about travelling to Mars. The plant farm and the water recovery system are already what NASA uses. NASA hopes to gain a lot from this movie because it's as real as it gets. This will hopefully gain more support on the financial aspect as it is a fact that technology requires a lot of money to build.
