'Street Fighter V' PS4 Beta Ends on September 2; Initial Reviews Look Promising for Capcom

By

The "Street Fighter V" PS4 beta concluded on September 2. After a failed worldwide testing in July followed up by successful stress tests in different regions in August; Capcom resumed its global beta program August 28. Now that the beta had ended, was it a hit or another miss from Capcom?

The PS4-only beta for "Street Fighter V" initially began in July but was cut short after some technical issues, according to a report in Polygon. Capcom suspended the tests and promised to bring back the beta for full five days once the technical problems were resolved.

And so it did. After regional tests were done in Europe, Japan/Asia, and in North and South America, Capcom had finally announced that it would finally push through with its worldwide beta for "Street Fighter V" on August 28 - September 2. Although routine maintenance were still done during the beta, players were ensured by Capcom that everything would run smoothly during the entire five-day period, as reported in Youth Health Magazine.

Indeed, the PS4 beta test for "Street Fighter V" this time around ran a lot better and smoothly than the first one, according to the Examiner. During the July beta test, it was almost impossible to log on and train in the waiting room, let alone participate in a fight with an online opponent. The regional stress tests worked favorable for Capcom. During the week-long beta, players were matched successfully worldwide. Even more remarkable are the moments wherein the online gameplay would supposedly ebb were then few, if not, temporary.

As to the misses, as previously announced, there are now 10 characters in "Street Fighter V", but only six were made available for the beta - Ryu, Chun Li, Nash, M. Bison, Cammy, and Birdie. There were no move lists in the game. But of course, that would be trivial for adept "Street Fighter" fans. Anyone who played the original 2008 "Street Fighter IV", or the recent PS4 port, would be comfortable with "Street Fighter V".

Based on the beta, for those who are expecting this new installment to be a new experience; it was more of a refinement rather than a new creation. In terms of the visuals, "Street Fighter V 's" was notable. Although the characters looked flaky in screenshots and trailers; they were more visually appealing once seen in the game proper.

With these impressions from the beta alone, "Street Fighter V" looks promising enough. Capcom had really done their homework this time around. And with the testing done and results being reviewed by the studios, all these concerns from beta testers will eventually be studied by Capcom; and might be included in the game itself before its launch in 2016.
