‘Alien 5’ Updates: Neill Blomkamp’s film makes way for Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus 2’; New concept art shows Sigourney Weaver

'Alien 5' will be directed by Neill Blomkamp and produced by Ridley Scott, the franchise's previous director. It was reported that Blomkamp's film will have to be delayed in favor of Scott's upcoming 'Prometheus 2' film. New concept art has also been released showing main protagonist Sigourney Weaver as the pop icon Ellen Ripley.

According to ComingSoon.net, 20^th Century Fox seems to be prioritizing Ridley Scott's new installment for 'Prometheus' and will hold up Blomkamp's project. It was reported that although the 'Alien' sequel is currently in the works, Scott insisted that his movie be made first. Scott will also be producing Blomkamp's film and the negotiations may be for the benefit of both filmmakers.

In another article by Blastr, the science-fiction sequel may be hitting cinemas on 2018 at the earliest - having been pushed back quite a bit by the other film. Another main concern for studios is actress Sigourney Weaver's priorities for the new 'Avatar' sequel by James Cameron and the delay may be advantageous. It was reported that Blomkamp may get his project started some time in 2017, well behind the 'Prometheus 2' filming in January 2016.

Blomkamp had been eager to shed some light on his upcoming film by sharing some concept art on his social media account, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It hinted at Weaver reprising her role as the iconic warrant office Ellen Ripley and Michael Biehn as Corporal Dwayne Hicks. Although no possible plot had been announced so far, Blomkamp said, "I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of Aliens. So it's Alien, Aliens and then this movie."

'Alien 5' is a yet untitled new installment in the science-fiction horror franchise started by Scott in 1979. The first film's plot introduced a murderous and highly aggressive extraterrestrial species that proved to be the bane of humankind. It received critical acclaim and box office success including an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects as well as Saturn Awards for Best Director, Best Science Fiction Film and Best Supporting Actress.
