‘Joy’ Cast Updates: Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Robert De Niro reunited in David O’Russell 1st female-led film

'Joy' will feature Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro in a star-studded team up once again. Director David O'Russell admitted that the upcoming film will be his first project with a real female protagonist.

Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence will star as the titular character Joy Magnano and is once again reunited with her 'Silver Linings Playbook' co-actors Bradley Cooper and fellow Oscar-Winner Robert De Niro.

According to The Daily Mail, the upcoming film is the fourth time Lawrence and Cooper have starred together on the big screen as well as the third time they have been directed by David O'Russell. The latter will be portraying an executive at the Home Shopping Network who helps give Joy her big break.

Lawrence admitted in an interview with Vanity Fair that working with O'Russell is both "fascinating and terrifying" at the same time. She said, "...he's a mad scientist genius... He's inspired by anything... You have to let go of all your s-t. You are the paint. He's the paintbrush and the canvas." The cast and grew headed to a wintry Boston for principal photography last February and the actress stressed that they had eight feet of snow at one point for which everyone had to endure.

According to Hollywood Life, O'Russell admitted that the upcoming biographical drama film is his first ever project that features a woman as the main protagonist. 'Joy' is about a struggling single mother of three and her rise towards founding and managing her own business empire. The film is based on the life of Magnano, inventer of the "miracle mop" and president of Ingenious Designs LLC.

'Joy' is scheduled to debut in cinemas on December 25, 2015 and is written, directed and produced by O'Russell. The filmmaker has been credited with several critically acclaimed and commercially successful hits such as 'American Hustle', 'Silver Linings Playbook', and 'The Fighter'. The upcoming film will star Lawrence, Cooper and De Niro as well as Edgar Ramirez, Elisabeth Rohm, Isabella Rossellini and Dascha Polanco.
