‘Pacific Rim 2’ Updates: Guillermo del Toro confirms release date, filming in November; Godzilla crossover not happening

By

'Pacific Rim 2' will start filming in November under the direction of returning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. He specifically said that no crossover will happen between his film and Godzilla. This speculation came up when his statement was previously taken out of context.

In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, the 50-year old Mexican director revealed that things are moving forward with the sequel of his 2013 science-fiction monster film. He said that the cast and crew will start shooting on November. He added, "We are deep into designing the robots - the Kaijus.... Having fun planning the battles. We have an epic battle at the end of this - that we started to design a couple of weeks ago. We've been up for about three or four months designing, and we start shooting in November."

An article by Movie Pilot previously revealed that Godzilla may be joining the other Kaijus in the world of 'Pacific Rim'. It hinted of the possibility of a very different kind of sequel, featuring a crossover with the colossal and iconic sea monster from a totally different franchise. Del Toro revealed that the second installment will also delve deeper into the origins and mythology of Kaijus.

It would have been an astounding cinematic feat; however, Screen Crush managed to debunk this theory in its latest article. The rumor was caused by a quote by del Toro stating that he would love to feature Godzilla but it was cut off and taken out of context. The remainder of what he said revealed that he had no plans in doing the crossover.

The potential mash-up of diverse monster universes will not be happening any time soon despite del Toro's enthusiasm about the idea. He said that he himself would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla battle against each other however 'Pacific Rim 2' will take on a wholly different direction.

'Pacific Rim 2' is a science-fiction monster action film scheduled to be released on August 4, 2017. Its predecessor starred Charlie Hunnam as Raleigh Becket, Idris Elba as Stacker Pentecost, Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Mori, Max Martini as Herc Hansen, and Charlie Day as Dr. Newton Geiszler. The first film received generally positive feedback from critics and audiences.
