The CyanogenMod 12.1 update that brings Android with 5.1.1 and Security Patch for Stagefright has already been released by the CyanogenMod team. The update will also support the for IMAP Idle, the release of SDK v1.
According to First Post, the biggest Android Security problem for years now was reported to be the Stagefright vulnerability. Almost 95 percent of all Android users are reported vulnerable to attacks. It is said that a Stagefright bug allows the attacker to remotely execute code by utilizing multimedia text messages. The users were reported couldn't even see the message, in most cases.
Furthermore, the virus that is called 'Stagefright' is said to be a media library where numerous popular media formats are being processed by this. Since it is stated that a media processing is frequently time-sensitive, the library is implemented in native code (C++) that is actually more prone to a memory corruption than memory safe languages like Java.
A batch of devices was already set to have the CyanogenMod update. However, not all of these devices will pick up the update immediately, for they are not available for the mean time.
It is noted that users whose devices are not yet counted in the "Good to go" list should have more patience to wait until their devices come to be ready. If not, they can take one of those pre-released builds to install, reports Tech times.
The NDTV Gadgets cited that those Android devices that operate on Android 2.2 or higher are susceptible to be assaulted by a Stagefright, Security researchers say. It is reported that there are over 1 billion estimated Android devices are presently being used and considered vulnerable to the attack.
The inclusion of the fresh security revelations including the vulnerabilities in "Stagefright" is the reason why the former CM11.0 and CM12.0 builds got modified. The company recommended the new CyanogenMod update to the users with CM 11.0 and CM 12.0 builds. Also, the CM12.1 new version release marks the company's first Android 5.1.1 Lollipop-based CM build release.
The update is anticipated to arrive in Yu Yureka and Yu Yuphoria users soon. Yu Televentures, Micromax's subsidiary, announced in June and said that the Android 5.1 Lollipop-based CM 12.1 update for the Yu Yureka and Yuphoria has come into the terminal stage of testing.
