Apple released the new iPhone 6S on September 9 with a plan of making it affordable for potential buyers. The smartphone company created a strategy called iPhone Upgrade Program to gain more sales on the product. As such, potential buyers can undergo phone upgrade at any time in an instalment basis. Other benefits of the program include phone unlock and AppleCare+.
The Verge listed the cost of iPhone 6S which is at around $199 on-contract, and at $299 in 64GB and $399 in 128GB. Given such amount may discourage potential buyers, so Apple offers an iPhone Upgrade Program wherein potential buyers can pay the phone together with its monthly plan in increments.
Related report listed four great deals in Apple's program. First, buyers can get new iPhone yearly provided that 12 months is paid according to the agreement. From here, the iPhone can be swapped to a new one which will start another two-year contract. Major carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon can support such Apple's deal.
Another part of the program is the ability of the new iPhone to be unlocked. It means that the new iPhone model can be brought to a different carrier for activation. Nevertheless, if the new iPhone is unlocked through carriers, users may lose some of the benefits of moving away. Further, new iPhone model can be set in low monthly payments. For example, 16 GB iPhone 6S may cost $32.41 per month depending on the arrangement of chosen carrier and Apple. Such instalment can cover warranty and may add to the monthly payment.
The iPhone Upgrade Program also comes with AppleCare+ which can offer insurance. 16BG iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus can cost $129 every month and that can cover hardware warranty to two years. On the other hand, BBC News mentioned that with such program, it may increase handset shipments from 222.45 million (July 2014 and June 2015). It means that with the many competitors, it is important for the smartphone firm to innovate its deals.
The upgraded specs and features of iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus as well as the iPhone Upgrade Program is something that potential buyers can consider.
