'Doctor Strange' may feature Mads Mikkelsen as another villain in addition to Chiwetel Ejiofor's Baron Mordo. It was speculated that the character Scarlet Witch may hint at a huge connection between Doctor Strange and the rest of the Avengers.
According to Variety, Mikkelsen is currently in negotiations to play another on-screen villain to battle it out with Cumbertach's Sorcerer Supreme. He will be one of the antagonists featured alongside Ejiofor's Baron Mordo. His character's name has not been announced as of the moment since his possible involvement for Marvel's upcoming live-action adaptation is not official yet.
The multi-award winning Danish actor is best known for his portrayal as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the popular horror-thriller NBC television series 'Hannibal'. He has also starred in films such as 'The Hunt', 'A Royal Affair', 'The Three Musketeers', 'Valhalla Rising' and 'Prague'.
An article by Movie Pilot presented three specific villains Mikkelsen could play based on the comic book series of the same name. A powerful character named Dormammu, who comes from the Dark Dimension seeking to conquer worlds, was initially speculated as the film's main antagonist. It would be highly likely that Mikkelsen could take up a part such as this.
Another possible villain presented is the alien mage and scientist Yandroth whose aim is worldly destruction. Finally, a third option is Dr. Stephen Strange's past colleague Dr. Charles Benton, who sold his soul in exchange of powers that could match the Sorcerer Supreme's.
It is not yet known how much of the 'Doctor Strange' comic books will make it to the big-screen. Ejiofor's fictional supervillain at least will be appearing since the character has always been known as one of Doctor Strange's great enemies. However, the question on many a loyal fan's mind would be how the second installment in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) could connect to the rest of the Avengers.
In an article by Cinema Blend, Scarlet Witch a.k.a. Wanda Maximoff was named as one of the characters who could be the key to a connection between the world of the Avengers and Doctor Strange's supernatural realm. Scarlet Witch possesses mystical abilities of telekinesis and mental manipulation, psionic energy as well as telepathy. MCU's Phase Three is said to usher in and explore the hidden world of alternate dimension, magic and the paranormal.
Scarlet Witch will be making an appearance in the first film in Phase Three 'Captain America: Civil War'. She will also be appearing in 2018's 'Avengers: Infinity War Part 1'. It was previously speculated that Doctor Strange may also make a cameo in the latter film.
'Doctor Strange' is an upcoming superhero film scheduled to be released on November 4, 2016. It will be directed by Scott Derrickson and produced by Marvel's Kevin Feige. It is currently in pre-production.
