Nintendo Sold 7 Million Amiibo Figures in US; Wave 5 Rolls Out on September 11

By

It's a whopping 7 million Nintendo Amiibo figures sold in the US alone, this is according to an August sales report of the NPD Group. The battle of the consoles is evident, as Sony's PS4 is still at the helm. Still, Nintendo is unmoved, as another figures report is set to be released on Friday alongside Super Mario Maker. The next wave of Amiibo collectibles will come on sale in Amazon on September 11.

According to Venture Beat, along with 7 million Amiibo toys-to-life toys sold since November, the Japanese studio also reported that its handheld 3DS experienced a 30 percent spike in sales and a massive 600,000 copies of the Splatoon shooter were sold in the US territory alone. With Nintendo's success in 3DS, it will again release a new and slimmer version later this month, as there is a downpour of game releases during Fall and sales usually rise up during the holidays as well.

Recently, Amazon had refused to sell certain Amiibo figures, as it expects a flood in demand for these collectibles, mentioned in an IGN report. The Wave 5 of Amiibo will roll out on September 11, at certain times during the day for specific items. Amazon reminded amiibo-addicts that there's a 1 item per customer policy, and a 1-Click Ordering will be disabled for these toys-to-life toys. Although there is abundance in supply, Amazon still expects to sell out. The available Amiibo items on sale are below:

Ganondorf: 1:00pm

Zero Suit Samus: 2:00pm

Pikmin & Olimar: 3:00 pm

30th Anniversary Mario (Classic color): 4:00pm

And although Nintendo took third place this month, rallying behind Sony's PS4 and Xbox One, still, these sales figures are worth something to laugh at on the way to the bank, according to Shack News. While Nintendo's Wii U sales is not that prominent in numbers, still, selling 7 million Amiibo figures in 9 months since November is a success for Nintendo.

The NPD report also disclosed that there is a 2% slump in hardware sales to $190.5 million. It might have taken back last month's 2% hike, then, which is $202.1 million. Still, there will be another report that will be released on Friday, with Super Mario Maker sales numbers. The fact that toys-to-life merchandising is a young but already considered a billion-dollar industry, Nintendo still has a chance to have a slice of that marketable pie.
