The 5th Wave, the first book of a trilogy by Rick Yancey, its movie adaptation of the same name is set to be the next Young Adult or YA sensation after The Hunger Games, but starkly different from it. Chloë Grace Moretz plays lead Cassie Sullivan which is set to premiere in live-action next year, followed by the publication of the third and final book installment, The Last Star.
While The 5th Wave is a YA novel, with a post-apocalyptic setting and a sister trying to save her sibling, The 5th Wave's story unfolds in a very different way from how The Hunger Games did. Dealing with alien invasion and human extinction Moretz' Cassie Sullivan is no Katniss Everdeen in the types of challenges she faces but is the same stroke of strong, brave heroine.
The Others (as the aliens are called) do damage in those worst ways possible. First, they emit an electromagnetic pulse that took away power, tsunamis all over the world to wipe out the major coastal cities, an uncontrollable plague that kills people by the millions, and they have invaded human bodies, pretending to be one of the populace to control and exterminate them, USA Today reports.
However, the titular 5th wave of attack remains a mystery, except that it's the "deadly final stroke of malevolence". Cassie, tragedy after tragedy, fights to save her kidnapped younger sibling, which evolves into a battle for humanity.
In an exclusive by Entertainment Weekly, The 5th Wave revealed thecover of the movie tie-in edition of the book. This features Moretz' as Sullivan in the cover, together with her sibling, whom she is trying to find and protect before the 5th wave befalls them.
This publication comes ahead of the movie premiere on January 17, 2016. Following that is the release of the third and final book of the trilogy, The Last Star. The New York Times bestselling series is set to reveal the planet's and the characters' fate in its conclusion to be published on May 24, 2016.
This new dystopia promises to be unlike anything seen before, and one review even implies that Katniss Everdeen is no match for Cassie Sullivan. Dubbed as an "action packed intrigue, this is a modern sci-fi masterpiece that promises intensity that is brought by the "potent mix of war, romance, and hope" while trying to save a world, according to The 5th Wave Is Coming Website.
The 5th Wave also stars Ron Livingston and Maggie Siff star as Cassie's parents, Zackary Arthur the little brother Sammy and Liev Schreiber plays military leader Colonel Vosch. Directed by J. Blakeson, The 5thWave promises to be the dystopia audiences have not seen before, not especially in The Hunger Games.
