Recent news broke out that Incredibles 2 will happen faster than Cars 3. However, a clarification was made that Incredibles 2 writer and director Brad Bird did not mean that his movie will be released ahead of Cars 3. Release dates for either of the film are still fluid and unconfirmed.
In an interview with Collider, Bird mentioned Cars 3 while talking about the Incredibles 2. Talking about how originally Incredibles was supposed to be released after Cars. What Cars eneded up being released in 2006, two years after the 2004 Incredibles.
However, Bird's statement was misconstrued as a reference to the current sequels being made: Incredibles 2 and Cars 3. A representative of Bird has since reached out to Collider to correct the misunderstanding, saying that Bird was referring to the original movies. The article has also updated this point.
According to Den of Geek, exact dates on Cars 3 and Incredibles 2 are still up in the air, but speculations say that either might get the June 2018 release, if they are at "early storyboarding stage." At this point, all it means is that is whichever gets a release date second will be released more than year later than the first, in accordance to Pixar's plan of releasing a sequel every other year.
Incredibles 2 and Cars 3 are just some of the sequels cooking in the Pixar oven. Time Magazine covered Pixar's showcases in Disney's D23 Expo. The animation is working on two more follow ups aside from Cars 3 and Incredibles 2: Toy Story 4 and Finding Dory. Teaser posters of the movie were shown.
Cars 3 and other Pixar sequels are still largely on the conceptual scale. As of the moment, Cars 3 has no release date yet and both Cars 3 and Incredibles 2 are too early in the process to know which will come out first. Should there be news of definite dates, Pixar will definitely announce it.
