'Spider-Man' Reboot: Director Drew Goddard explained why he turned down Marvel film; Spidey to feature high school life

By

Two years ago, the "Cabin In the Woods" director Drew Goddard has signed up for Marvel as the showrunner for Netflix's Daredevil TV series. But months later, Sony Pictures employed him as the writer and director of a Sinister Six movie in The Amazing Spider-Man universe making him leave the previous project.

And again, changes were made when Sony and Marvel decided to reboot Spider-Man with Goddard's name as the director. However, news about Jon Watts to helm the Spider-Man reboot instead of him is building up fans' curiosity.

On a conducted interview with Cinemablend, Drew Goddard explained his reasons why he did not take the opportunity to direct the reboot. According to him, there was no problem working with Marvel. He also pointed out that he respects them but it was hard for him to write a new movie plus the setting and appearance of Spidey in the "Civil War". "They know how much respect I have for them. They've been very nice to me over the years,' he said.

But, he reiterated that this was not the proper time for him to be on the project, "and I know sooner or later, we're going to find the right project. It's all about timing," he stated.

Although Goddard won't be having a shot at the first project in this new Spider-Man series, Screenrant stated that it doesn't necessarily mean he won't be taking another film in the following years. Perhaps he could direct the next films aside from the first one.

However, an article on Digital Spy clearly stated that no one still have an idea on what will be the storyline for the "Spider-Man" reboot and whether it will take place prior or post. But, it was mentioned that it will feature his struggles with his power and life way back his high school days.

On the said matter, many are disappointed by the sudden changes of direction but still, people are excited for the new faces in the upcoming film. As things stand, Spider-Man is set to return with a new Peter Parker, Tom Holland, working with a new director, Jon Watts.

Beyond that, Goddard admitted that he will still be a fan of Spider-Man. He reiterated that he adored all five Spider-Man films. With so much to say, at least he explained why he took down the "Spider-Man" reboot filmmaking offer.
