‘Legend’: Tom Hardy Displeased With Questions About His Sexuality; Stops Reporter On His Tracks

By

Tom Hardy is on tour to promote his upcoming film "Legend" set to show on October 2, 2015. In a press conference at the Toronto Film Festival, he was asked about his sexuality by Graeme Coleman which clearly upset Hardy. Tom clears the tension by shutting down the reporter in the classiest way possible.

ET Online shares that the "Legend" actor was doing his usual rounds for the promotion of his upcoming film "Legend" when tension arose in one of his press conferences. He was part of the panel in the Toronto Film Festival when a reporter from Daily Xtra asked him about his "ambiguous" sexuality. The reporter added whether Tom thought it was difficult for celebrities to discuss about their sexuality.

This is not the 37-year-old actor's first rodeo. A similar incident occurred at a Cannes Festival press conference during the "Mad Max: Fury Road" promotion. At that time, a certain reporter also crossed the line by asking him what he thinks by sharing the big screen with "all these women." Without skipping a heartbeat he responds by saying "No, not for a minute."

BDCwire gives additional details on the tension during the "Legend" panel interview in Toronto. The reporter whose name is Graeme Coleman, works for an LGBT news organization. If Graeme stuck to asking questions about the character Tom Hardy was playing in the movie and not about him in real life, things might have turned out differently. Hardy plays Ronnie Kray who is bisexual.

But that wasn't the case as Coleman used the character only as an introduction and segued to the actors' own sexuality. Tom clearly was irritated about the query and quickly asked Coleman, "What on earth are you on about?" The reporter pointed out in a 2008 interview Tom did with Attitude magazine and asked if he thought that celebrities find it hard to talk about their sexuality. Hardy answered the first question by saying, "I don't find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality." He then retorts by asking the reporter if he is asking about his sexuality in particular. Coleman replies "uhm..sure." Then another question from Hardy, "Why?" This renders the reporter speechless and Tom immediately stopped him by saying, "Thank you!" and moved on to the next question.

Hollywood Reporter added that both Emily Browning and director Helgeland were both looking on uncomfortably during the whole exchange. The movie "Legend" tells about the infamous Kray twins, Ronnie Kray and Reggie Kray who ruled the British media and the criminal underground in London during the 1960's. Produced by Working Title Films and Studio Canal, the movie is released by Universal Studios.

It is not the first time that Tom Hardy has encountered questions which are a bit sexist like what happened in Toronto. He mostly ends it with class and leaves reporters in their shoes. Hopefully, Graeme Coleman will learn to be more discreet next time around especially when asking about LGBT-related questions. Whatever the case, fans and moviegoers should flock to theaters as "Legend" is due to be shown in theaters on October 2, 2015.
